EXPERIENCE OVERVIEW
  • Equipment at the center. Wetsuit, fins, mask and snorkel are provided
  • Detailed briefing and presentation of the species with models, photos, etc.
  • Search for humpback whales and listen to their songs with hydrophones
  • Surface observations
  • Analysis and understanding of animal behavior
  • Water entry possible depending on sea conditions and and whales behavior
Safely

If sea conditions and the animals' behavior allow it, it is possible to get into the water to be approached by the whales. A guide will accompany you in the water after reminding you of safety instructions and the approach rules.

In the meantime, just remember this: The Ocean belongs to the cetaceans. They are wild animals and should be approached with respect and gentleness. The golden rule: discretion.

We strictly adhere to the cetacean approach rules established by the Polynesian Environmental Directorate (DIREN). If we want this activity to continue for years to come, let's act with respect.

Why choose our whale watching trips in Tahiti ? An exclusive privilege!

We are the only whale-watching operator on this 60 km stretch of Tahitian coast. This means you'll never come across any other boats at sea, which guarantees greater calm, serenity and, above all, more time to approach the whales with gentleness and respect.

What's more, our guides are wildlife photographers and naturalists. With over 15 years' experience observing wildlife around the world, Mélo will share with you her in-depth knowledge of humpback whales, while Vincent will detail their behavior to determine whether an approach is possible or whether patience is required.

Observe, listen

During our whale-watching excursions, we are equipped with a hydrophone—a specialized underwater microphone that allows us to listen to the songs of humpback whales. Did you know that only males sing?

With this device, we can not only hear these unique melodies but also record them.

You will learn much more about this during your whale excursion in Tahiti, discovering a fascinating aspect of the world in which these majestic creatures live.

LEARN

Enjoy a unique experience with our team, who will share their knowledge of humpback whales throughout the excursion. We will provide key insights into these majestic creatures, their lifestyle, and their behavior.

Educational tools are also available on board, including photos, samples, and detailed explanations, to deepen your understanding and help you identify the animals.

SHARE

Mokarran Diving is a partner of the association OCEANIA.

As part of this collaboration, we collect skin samples for DNA analysis. We also provide them annually with our recordings of whale songs and identification photos taken during our excursions.

All of this contributes to a better understanding of the humpback whale population in French Polynesia.
